Suggest Dosage For Tri-Sprintec

My girlfriend and I just had sex and I ejaculated inside of her. She is on her period. We freaked out so we bought plan b. How many of the birth control pill Tri Sprintec will be equivalent to an emergency contraceptive? Would it be safe to take those pills with the plan b already in her system?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is not safe to take Tri Sprintec with Plan-B already in the system. If used within 72 hours following an unprotected sex, the emergency contraceptive pill or plan-B alone is effective enough to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.

Two pills of Tri Sprintec taken 12 hours apart are equivalent to an emergency contraceptive pill like Plan-B.

Since the risk of side effects like vomiting, abdominal pains, irregular or heavier menstrual bleeding are likely to be more hence Tri Sprintec should not be taken while the Plan-B is already in her system.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
