Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a fib. One of my medications is bystolic. My pulse has consistently run around 60 when I wake up in the morning or if I have been sitting around. The past 2 to 3 weeks it consistently is over 100, as much as 125. Would it be ok to take an extra half dose of bystolic?
The increased pulse should be investigated prior to initiating any medication changes.
To determine if there is a serious cause, you would need an ECG and blood tests to rule out anemia or hyperthyroidism (high levels of thyroid hormone).
If no serious cause is found then an increase can be done depending on your current dose. If you are using a high dose then it cannot be increased.
I hope this helps
