Suggest Dosage Of Diamicron MR For Type 2 Diabetes
Hi. I am 65, 75KG, 175 cm, type 2 diabetic for 15 years. I have managed my fasting sugar levels to be between 4 and 6 for at least 8 years. I am suddenly very confused about Diamicron varieties and dosage. I remember taking the same diabetic medication for years, being Diabex 1000mg and Diamicron 80 mg, 1 tablet each twice daily, morning and evening. Now suddenly something called Diamicron MR 60 mg has been prescribed to me, to be taken only half a tablet twice a day! My fasting sugar levels have now risen to be between 6.5 and 8. What is this new Diamicron? Can I not still take what I have always taken? And if I must take Diamicron MR should I take 80mg or double the dosage?
Dear Sir/Madam, Diamicron MR 60 is extended release diamicron. it is equivalent of what you were taking. In my opinion if you are comfortable with diamicron 80mg twice a day You can continue to take that. I personally don't fancy changing the prescription when patient is getting a better control. Your physician might have just wanted to reduce the number of tablets and give you the same control. unfortunately it has not worked. Nothing wrong on his part, it sometimes happens. You can safely go to your old schedule and just keep your diabetologist informed. Hope i have answered your query Dr.Riyaz Sheriff
