Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Home treatment for
neurocysticercosis may only be preventive through hygiene to prevent ingestion of of eggs of Pork tapeworm and boiling of meat well before eating.
If the diagnosis is already confirmed, treatment will depend on the viability of the cysts and its complications.
*If the parasite is dead, approach will be symptomatic and anti-convulsants even though duration is not defined.
*If parasite is viable or active:
-A course of
steroids or anti-depressants before the use of anticysticercal drugs
-Anti-parasitic drug like
albendazole or anticystical drugs
- Anti-convulsants if seizures
*In case of
multiple cysts in subarachnoid space,
hydrocephalus, and obstruction due to
arachnoiditis, surgery may be considered.
Preventive measures for cysticercosis as a whole may include:
-Avoid eating raw or undercooked pork and other meats.
-Don’t eat meat of pigs that are likely to be infected with the tapeworm.
-Wash hands with soap and water after using the toilet and before handling food, especially when traveling in developing countries.
-Wash and peel all raw vegetables and fruits before eating. Avoid food that may be contaminated with feces.
-Drink only bottled or boiled (1 minute) water or carbonated (bubbly) drinks in cans or bottles. Do not drink fountain drinks or any drinks with ice cubes. -Another way to make water safe is by filtering it through an "absolute 1 micron or less" filter AND dissolving
iodine tablets in the filtered water.
Hope my answer will help you
