Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am type 2 diabetic aged 31 years. I have started working out in the gym and would like to build my body and endurance. I am considering taking a protein supplement to meet my protein needs in addition to help regulate my glucose levels. Is it advisable to take a protein supplement, if yes, what should be the dosage. I weight 70 Kilos and height is 171 cms. Current HBA1C value is 6.39
Based on the history you have shared, it is good to know that your HbA1C is in fairly good limit. Further more the excercises can help to regulate sugar levels even better.
Just for reassurance renal functions and urine for microalbumin may be helpful to look for any signs of renal involvement though very less likely but for reassurance as that can help to formulate a better protein intake threshold.
Protein intake will not interfere with your diabetes otherwise and any proteins supplements which should be anabolic steroids free and can be taken with good hydration and exercises.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
