Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am suffering from ED. I am a 61 year old diabetic. I am aware that diabetes is the probable cause. I cannot take Viagra because I had a heart bypass 2 years ago. Is there an injection that is available on the NHS, to cure, not cure, but assist in this embarrassing and difficult male problem?
Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which to keep an erection for performing a sexual intercourse. Penile injection therapy is considered as a second line treatment option for erectile dysfunction if first line therapy like oral erectile dysfunction medications aren't well tolerated. Usually three types of medications used in penile injection namely papaverine, phentolamine, prostaglandin E1 or alprostadil. Any one of these preparations can be used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. But, sometimes combination of these preparations are also administered. All these medications help to relax the smooth muscles and cause vasodilation in the penis, enhance blood circulation and leads to an erection. But, before using penile injection, you should consult your prescribing doctor first.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
