Hi,
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a bacteria commonly found in the human intestines and feces. It does not cause infection in the intestines. But, when it enters other parts of the body, it causes infection. Common site of infection is lungs causing pneumonia, condition due to infection of lung tissue with bacterial infiltration. Symptoms depends on the site of infection. It can cause pneumonia,
urinary tract infection involving urethra, bladder, ureter and sometimes extends up to kidney, cellulitis in the skin, meningitis due to infection of the covering of the brain, etc.
Antibiotics are the first line of treatment for
Klebsiella infection. Some strains are resistant to routine antibiotics which makes the treatment difficult. In that case, higher antibiotics are prescribed for cure. Sometimes,
blood culture and sensitivity helps to identify the appropriate antibiotic which will inhibit the growth of the infection organism. Over the counter medications are advised for other symptoms such as fever, chills, cough, etc. Warm water helps to overcome
sore throat.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
