Hello.
Thank you for asking at HCM.
I went through your son's history.
Childhood asthma is a dynamic disease which has a tendency to improve and worsen over long time periods depending upon child's environmental changes, diet, medications, etc.
If for last three months his frequency has increased, if his symptoms limits his daily activities/exercise or he has night-time
cough more than once a week or he has to use his rescue inhaler (such as salbutamol or
levosalbutamol) for more than twice a week, I would suggest him to start daily controller medications (or increase his controller medications if he is already taking them) for at least next 3 months.
I will also suggest you to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will test him for allergies and may suggest additional measures and
allergen immunotherapy to improve asthma control.
I want to emphasize on correct technique of using inhalers as this is crucial to ensure that adequate amount of drug is getting into his lungs.
I would also suggest him regular breathing exercises, a healthy diet rich in
vitamins and minerals and avoidance of dusts-smokes-air pollution as much as possible.
Hope this will be helpful to you.
Wish your son the best of the health.
Regards.
