Hi,

Usually a perforated eardrum 30 years ago can not really be the same, either has symptoms or is healed. Cold itself can cause blockage due to middle ear fluid development. Obviously one of the cause is impacted wax, swollen due to water or so. Hence the best way is to consult your ENT Surgeon for proper evaluation, examination and treatment as per the cause found.

If wax is present it will be scoped out, may not need syringing. If there is middle ear infection then you need an appropriate course of antibiotic, antihistamine and anti-inflammatory medicines on prescription basis. Do not blow nose as it will increase the problems. Complete the treatment till cured.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
