Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, my daughter is 14 months old and she weighs 25 pounds. Her hands have been kind of splotchy and she is acting like they are really itching. So I bought some children s benadryl. And on there it says not to give to children under two. But her PCP told me not to go by age and to go by weight. And there is a chart online that says children 22 pounds can have 5mL of Benadryl. So I was just wondering if I could give it to her or not?
As per my clinical experience, Benadryl can be given to a child of 22 months old, under medical supervision as per the weight criteria. Additional guidelines: - Cleansing with antiseptic liquid or soap - Local application of calamine lotion - Antibiotic such as azithromycin for prevention of secondary bacterial infection - Supplements with vitamin c and zinc
Regular visit to her pediatrician will help to recover faster and smoother.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
