Suggest Medication For Clogged Ears

i recently traveled by air, aprx 2weeks and both my ears feel clogged ever since, like a big air bubble is in both of them. When I speak it sound like I am under water. It is painful as well. Ive tried water in both ears, and I tried bubble gum and breathing out technique. Nothing has helped. What should I do next?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Ear clogging that is persistent after air travel indicates the following:
- Eustachian tubes dysfunction
- Some nasal or sinus problems that has not allowed natural healing

May be you have tried hard on your own and tried to do something that should not be done like instilling water in ears, Valsalva or so. Infection secondary to insufflation of fluid from nose to the middle ear. I would advise you the following in such a situation:
- Consult an ENT surgeon for proper clinical evaluation and ENT endoscopy and investigations
- Oral and nasal decongestant
- Anti-inflammatory medicine
- Antibiotic as per the choice of your doctor
- Stop blowing of nose at the moment
- Do not instil anything in ears
- It may take some time for being normal so continue medicines till cured

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
