Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
how can I help my 4 year old with constipation. I have givin her a childrens laxative and I has now been 24 hours and she still is hurting. She has gone to the bathroom three times now, but she cries and hurts everytime she goes. Is there any other medication I can possibly give to her to help?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your child is having constipation. Need not to worry. There can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like eating a lot of dairy products, irritable bowel syndrome, incomplete clearance of waste products, acidity and certain other systemic conditions. Need not to worry. For now drink lot of water , do light exercises and avoid fatty and heavy meals. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination. Doctor may order colonoscopy or other tests to look for blockages in your colon , barium studies and blood test for hormonal changes. Doctor may prescribe fiber supplement psyllium, calcium polycarbophil , osmotic laxatives , stool softeners and medicine to reduce acidity.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
