Hi I am a advanced Parkinson disorder patient. I have been taking lactulose for several years, 20 ml daily at 1130am and on some days at 15 ml at 10pm I am then able to pass motion once in 3 to 4 days after taking glycerin suppositories along with above regime of lactulose I am bed bound Can I move to cremaffin or any safe laxative for daily consumption
Tricky. The problem in parkinsons is likely due to lack of bowel motility. Drugs that increase bowel motility directly , even over the counter ones, are horribly addictive and the gut stops working if you don't take them. So, increases in bulk and fluid in the bowel are the main things that are recommended and lactulose is one of the better and most commonly prescribed medicines. Also, lack of getting up and about causes constipation and this should be addressed with a plan for exercise and physical therapy.
