Suggest Medication For Dandruff Along With Red And Itchy Scalp
I have redness, itching and dandruff on my scalp and a doctor prescribed me diprovate plus location. When i apply this lotion for 3 4 days my scalp redness, itching and dandruff is gone but as i stop using in 5 6 days it come back again. some doctors say its seboric dermatitis and some says scalp psoriasis. I am using this lotion for long time nitow as I know its a steroid and harmful but do i stop using. kindly guide me better solution.. how to stop using this lotion and get rid of redness and itching.

Redness, itching and scaling of scalp usually indicates seborrheic dermatitis as your doctor said. For such cases, I used to give anti-fungal lotions/shampoo like ketaconazole twice a week for 2 months. After initial control, I advise them to continue once weekly for few more months (sometimes even years) to prevent recurrence, as this is a chronic disease. This can be done without much side effects.
Steroid lotions are sometimes needed for cases with severe inflammation and itching. For this, I uses mild-moderately potent steroids like desonide or fluocinolone. This need to be applied once daily for 3-4 weeks for sustained relief. High potency steroids like diprovate are better avoided for this purpose. Kindly discuss with your doctor.
