I filled in questionaire - had no response. Never been depressed until two to three years ago. Periodically feel good some of the time. Last year off and on edtremely tired shortly after awakening and then again at three o clock when I let myself lie down I can sleep for three hours. I have never napped and really do not enjoy napping; Never been like this in my life. I am considered a very strong person and I think this is accurate. Can you recommend a anti depression. I am 85 and did the full Camino de Santiago 4 years ago. I m having difficulty accepting this change in my life; Ido not feel it is normal for me. I m a very active person. Even now move a lot up and down stairs in my house daily (19 steps). I am still working about (eight hours a week). Clinial psychologist. I love my work. I am not crying, and I do not feel like a victim. I vd had a very satisfying life. sometimes now I feel sad. I did lose 5 yrs ago a beautiful daughter to Colon Cancer and My best friend and husband of fifty years also to Colon cancer and my only sister to whom I was very close to breast cancer due to a toxic response to cancer treatment. On most days I seem to make myself accomplish some house work. I see paperwork sitting right in front of me and I notice I just cannot make my self do it.I Whem I see patients, I am fully engaged and sometimes I think there is nothing wrong with me but the minute I get in the house I experience the fatigue. I do not feel physically tired . I often edperience a tiedness over my eyes and kind of a fuzzyness in my forhead that make me wany to go to bed. I am having trouble disagnosing myself, even though I have a specialty (trained) in depression. What do you suggest. I do not feel comfortble putting all of this on the internet Kathleen
The first line of treatment for depression nowadays is SSRI drugs. Sertraline or citalopram are some examples of them. These are generally well tolerated by the patients and are quite effective. You will need a doctor's prescription before you are able to have access to these drugs. A regular follow-up with your doctor is also needed to do the right dose adjustments as needed for you.
Counseling might be helpful for you as well, to help you better address your thoughts and handle stress in a more productive way.
