Noted the history about your toddler visiting India but has got diarrhea for 4 days, got a prescription of Enterogermina twice daily, 5 ml Ofloxacin twice daily, getting better but still pass stools every 3 to 4 hours, lost appetite, wants suggestion for how long the stomach infection exists and whether other medications be tried. Loose stool if of bacterial infection get response very fast, say within a day or so. If there is not much of a response, it is possible that the infection be viral and take a long time. Since the medicines allowed in adults to control loose stools are not allowed in toddlers, we can not try these to control the loose stools. Please continue the same medication and see the response. Send a sample of stool for test to find whether bacterial or viral or due to some intolerance. Maintain hydration and electrolyte balance well. If required postpone date of India visit.
