my wife never smoked, drinks alcohol very little, but has had a nagging, chronic, intermittent cough for about 3 months. she has been to the doc, No sinus problems, had her chest x-rayed, given benzonatate, pardon the spelling, Proventil hfa 90 mcg inhaler..nothing helps. she is 72 years old and in very good health...but this cough is tough to deal with. Understanding your concern. As per your query your wife have symptoms of intermittent cough which could be due to chest infection and it could be due to throat infection as well. It seems immunity of your wife is getting impaired which is making her susceptible to infections. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit general physician once and get it examined by x-ray chest. Start treatment after proper examination. If bronchitis is ruled out then you should go for ENT specialist and it could be due to strep throat , go for swab and sputum test. Start treatment after proper diagnosis is made out. Till then take proper course of antibiotics to you. Take steam inhalation. Avoid intake of cold beverages and outside food.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
