Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a c-section 3 weeks ago. I had a bad allergic reaction to the segical tape. A week later i broke out in hives. I was prescribed meds. The hives went away but i stayed with having itchy eyes. They itch on top and bottom of my eyelids. What can i put on my eyes.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Is it confirmed that the allergic reaction was caused by surgical tape? If the allergic reaction was definitely due to surgical tape then discontinuation of use of surgical tape will clear the allergic reaction. In addition, anti-histaminic drugs will benefit and as you have mentioned that you have been prescribed anti-histaminic drugs, it is quite possible that you have taken these medication. Persistance of itchiness on eye-lids can be managed by soothing lotion or an emollient. Since, the allergic reaction has not involved the structures of eye, there is no requirement of eye drops. The allergic reaction has involved only the skin of eye lids so application of a soothing lotion or gel will suffice. And as you have taken anti-histaminic drugs, no oral medication is required.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
