Hi Dr. I have started taking cerazette 4 days ago to alleviate menopause systems especially hot flushes. the pill didn t help me at all. I still get sever frequent hot flushes and night sweats. what is wore is that I have a headache and cant sleep at night more than 2 or three hours max. I m easily irritable now and have a really bad mood all the time. is this normal with cerazette? does it cause insomnia and bad temper?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Cerazette is hormonal preparation containing progesterone and is used to alleviate the menopausal symptoms. However, the major symptoms of menopause are due to deficiency of estrogens thus estrogen replacement is actually going to help. Estrogen use has been decreased for menopause due to its higher risk for developing cancers of reproductive tract. Since, your menopausal symptoms are not being controlled by progesterone alone, estrogens will have to be added but the usage of estrogen will have to be monitored closely. Thus, I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for prescription of estrogen and for close monitoring of the drug.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
