Suggest Medication For Nasal Congestion Caused Due To Sinus Infection

I m on antibiotics for a sinus infection, still very congested. Just now I blew my nose, then bent down and some thin, bright yellow liquid ran out of my right nostril. I also have had pain above my teeth on my right side for the last day or so. Do I need stronger antibiotics, or Is my infection breaking up or what?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that discharge of yellow liquid from nostrils and pain in teeth of upper right side is probably due to infection in the sinuses leading to Sinusitis and as the sinuses drains through nostrils, therefore fluid/pus accumulation in sinuses can drain through nose..

As you are on antibiotics, the congestion will resolve once the infection will be considerably reduced and cannot resolve immediately after starting antibiotics..
You should continue with the same antibiotics and along with it start following other supportive remedies that will help in relieving congestion and ease your discomfort..

-You can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to relieve pain and also help in reducing inflammation..
-Take decongestants like Pseudoephadrine to relieve congestion, that is your cause of discomfort..
-Do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
-You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
-Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
-Do warm compresses around nostrils..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
