Suggest Medication For Nerve Pain While Having Diabetes

What other medication can I try for my nerve pain? I am taking gabapentin 300mg 2 cap in am, 2 at noon and 3 at dinner time. I still feel pain at times. I have asked my provider all he wants to do is increase my dosages. I have been diabetic since 1998. I was taking the pill format and my A1c was in the range for 6-8, after I was prescribed just the metformin and long lasting insulin my A1c has been in the 14+.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
Gabapentine is a good drug for reducing neuropathy related pain.Other drug is Pragabalin in doses of 75 to 100 mg once or twice a day.
But most importantly having a strict blood glucose control is absolutely essential. With a HbA1c% of 14 plus your diabetes is totally uncontrolled. In that situation just taking either Gabapentine or any other drug is not going to help much. You need to bring fasting glucose <100 mg, PP 1150 to 160 mg & HbA1c%<7. Because presence of high glucose in peripheral blood will make nerve fibers more irritated. So please see that your blood glucose is rapidly brought to levels mentioned above. Then only there will be any benefit from drugs to reduce pain. Thanks.
