Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband hit his elbow on a rebar that is a big metal pole he hit it extreamly hard and his arm goes numb and is in a lot of pain its been at least 4 weeks he went to the emergency room and they gave him a sling and told him to put ice on it nothing is any better please tell us what we can do at home to maybe help with the numbness and pain until we can afford a doctor visit and also what he might have done to his arm thank you
First of all, did you get X-rays done to rule out a fracture? If not, do get them done as the it might need an intervention in case there is a fracture.
However, if there isn't any, I'd suggest your husband to give adequate rest to his arm. Also, taking painkillers like Diclofenac will help in reducing the pain. Rest the arm and apply ice to reduce swelling. It should get better soon if there is no fracture. Also, ask your doctor to advice some exercises for his arm.
Wishing your husband a speedy recovery. With regards, Dr. Sridhar Reddy
