Suggest Medication For Pain On Ankles While Walking

I HAVE AN ANKLE PROBLEM...BONE ON BONE, hurts terrible when trying to walk. Usually no pain otherwise, but walking is very painful. I plan to have it operated on in October and am trying to make it through the summer. I have lots of work to do which requires my walking. My doctor gave me Celebrax, but it helps very little. Is there other medicines that might help? Or do I just have to bear it until the operation. If there is a cost for your help...thanks anyway.

Hello,

The following can be used for your pain. NSAIDs like ibuprofen or Aceclofenac daily twice for one week can be used provided you have normal functioning kidneys. Opioid analgesics like Morphine, Hydrocodone can also be used for 14 days or so. Ice can be applied at the site of pain. Supportive shoes are important.

Weight reduction to decrease stress on joint. Physical therapy like exercises and stretches can reduce pain, improve range of motion and strengthen muscles around joints. Sometimes in severe pain, you can go for a Cortisone shot in the ankle. You can ask your orthopedic surgeon to consider giving the shot.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
