Suggest Medication For Persistent Cold

My son is 1 year 8 months. He started having running nose with clear discharge since yesterday with mild cough. He kept sneezing a lot. Last night he had a temperature of 101 F. I immediately gave him 4 ml of calpol 250 mg and atarax 2.5 ml for the cold. Morning his temperature was 97.7F and the nasal discharge is yellow and he is still sneezing a lot. Can I continue calpol 4 ml 3 times a day and Atarax 2.5 ml 3 times a day?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cold which seems to be due to upper respiratory tract infection or poor immunity of body. Need not to worry. He should avoid exposure to allergen such as smoke and any smoking article as that will exaggerate their condition. Avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages. Avoid intake of sharp spicy food. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription. You should maintain oral hygiene. Do warm saline gargles. You can go for blood and sputum tests as well. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with anti inflammatory medications. You should apply mist humidifiers in room and take throat lozenges. Sometimes infection occur due to viral infection , in this case antibiotics do not work . Usually viral infection go away by its own or doctor may prescribe anti viral like acyclovir .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
