Hi Am suffering from rosacea a month ago. My doctor prescribed Metronidazole, but it s not available in the market anymore. So as an alternative for the same issue i bought metrogyl P Plus with metronidazole 1% and povidone iodine 5%. I wanna ask if this is good for my rosacea. Im having subtype 2 ny the way. Thanks hope to see your reply in few minutes.
Rosacea is characterised by redness, flushing and sometimes papules or pustules. Patients with rosacea have increased sensitivity of the skin to various triggers like sun light, heat, cold, emotional stimuli, spicy foods etc.
Apart from avoiding the triggers certain drugs which are knowen to be effective in rosacea are topical metronidazole gel, azaleic acid gel, clindamycin gel. Oral treatment includes tetracyclines like doxycycline, macrolides like erythromycin, azithromycin etc.
If you could'nt get metronidazole(povidone iodine is of no help in rosacea and is not advisable), you could try azaleic acid cream/gel 10% OR 20%, twice daily. Using a sunscreen also helps in rosacea.
Lasers like IPL and Pulse dye laser, KTP Laser are also used in rosacea, mostly for telangiectasias and persistent redness of rosacea.
regards
