General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Antibiotics used for treatment of cellulitis are all to be carefully monitored, especially because some of them are the most common medications producing allergic reactions in inidivuals. The most common ones used are dicloxacillin, flucloxacillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, etc. The course usually is about 14 days, and dosages depends on the indiviudal requirement. A topical antibiotic can help, but it is the oral antibiotics that are the primary treatment approach, so it doesn't really matter whhether or not a topical antibiotic is oart of the regimen.

Best wishes.
