Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a salivary gland infection. Taking Augmentin 875mg for 6 days. Puss still draining (from the glands near my tonsils) . Is this normal at this point, or am I being impatient with how long the meds are taking to get rid of the infection. Also, I ve read about 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water, rinse for mouth. Is that actually safe? Can it be gargled straight, or only diluted with water?

Suggest Medication For Salivary Gland Infection
Hi.. Thanks for the query.. Pus discharge from the the salivary gland is a clear indication of infection in the salivary gland. As it is just 6 days you need not to worry and continue taking the antibiotic as if there is pus formation it can take a bit longer to resolve.. Along with it you should also chew sugarfree chewing gums and lemon drops as it can help in draining off pus faster.. You should also massage the gland and it will help in removing the pus faster.. Yes, you should gargle with dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide and water and do not use a concentrated solution.. Doing antiseptic mouthwash gargles will also help.. Hope this helps.. Regards.
