Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My roommate went to the er last night with severe mouth pain and lesions. They diagnosed her with thrush but gave her nothing to help with the pain or the dry mouth that is causing her lips and gums to stick to her teeth and cut them. Is there anything she can do to relieve her suffering?
In case if your friend is diagnosed with Thrush that is a fungal infection caused by Candida Albicans Fungus and can cause soreness and pain on tongue and inside mouth along with it, it is a common cause for dryness in mouth..
Yes, her problem can be very much relieved by taking antifungal medications and remedies to improve saliva flow..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated... For thrush he/she can advise you antifungal medications like Nystatin mouthwash, Clotrimazole Lozenges and oral antifungal medications like Fluconazole or Itraconazole to be taken for atleast 15 days.. Along with it taking plenty of probiotics like Yogurt and garlic can help.. For dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums, instil artificial saliva drops and gargle with specialised mouthwash for dry mouth like Biotene that contains Methylcellose... For pain gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
