Suggest Medication For Treatment For High Blood Sugar Levels

I am looking for a blood pressure medication that will lower my blood pressure, yet not elevate my blood sugar. I have tried diuretics and calcium channel blockers and they do great on lowering my blood pressure but they raise my blood sugar levels by as much as 60 points. I have tried losartan and valsartan and they do not work in lowering my blood pressure unless the Doctor adds HCTZ to them. Losinipril isn t an option because of the potential to damage the kidneys. My brother died of kidney failure and was on this drug for only two months. And his is not the only case of damaged kidneys that I have read. I also have tried Lotensin, enaparil, and Chlorthalidone. Lorensen and enaparil did nothing for lowering my blood pressure and Chlorthalidone lowered my blood pressure but also raised my blood sugar. I am currently going to a Endochrinologist and we have tried a bunch of different BP meds with no success. Tonight I asked a pharmacist and she recommended Tekturma. When I looked it up, it had a serious potential to damage the kidneys. Can you help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is a well known fact that diabetic patients do suffer with kidney damage at some point of their life. That is due to not well controlled blood sugar levels. To see if Tekturna or any other blood pressure medicines will work for you, we should look at their function. They aim to stop producing/releasing the enzyme renin by the kidneys. So, any type of medicines you might be using, they will aim this enzyme produced by the kidneys.

Subsequently, they might damage the kidneys too. It is obvious, kidneys will get damaged by uncontrolled blood sugar levels and these medicines too. You should follow a strict healthy diabetic/high blood pressure diet too. However, your endocrinologist will see if the benefits will outweigh the side effects, he/she will recommend continuing the pill. So, the let your endocrinologist run the last talk.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
