Suggest Medication For Ulcerative Colitis

I Have Ulcerative Colitis diagnosed 46 years ago. I suffered quite badly for about 2 years but as time passed I have tried to educate myself re. U.C. using mostly very careful diet with help from my GP during flare ups. My friend who also has U.C. takes medication daily. Should I also be taking daily medication?

Hello

Thanks for asking query on HCM. You are suffering from ulcerative colitis with last flare 2 years back. But you have not mentioned the type - pancolitis vs left sided or last colonoscopy details including endoscopic garde, latest ESR/CRP. It would be difficult to tell exactly what treatment do you need without these details. Anyhow your UC appears to be in remission as of now. I would suggest any patient in remission to be atleast on 5 ASA compounds - Mesacol 800 mg trice daily with Folvite 5 mg once daily. Please do colonoscopy if not done within last 1 year.
