Dear doctor, I have vitiligo on lips since 5 years and the doctors have put me on tacrolimus and melgaine lotion. How far that helps me and im using tacrolimus since 3yrs and melgaine since 1week. I want to get rid of this problem im very depressed about this. Please help me on how far i can get success with the treatment. Thank you
hi. i understand that vitiligo can be very frustrating especially over exposed parts like lips.
but having said that i would like to stress upon the fact that its an autoimmune disease and its exact course cannot be predicted.
tacrolimus and melgain are well proven treatment modalities for vitiligo but i would suggest you to add a moderate efficacy steroid cream like mometasone furoate. you can apply mometasone in the day time, tacrolimus 0.1% in the evening and melgain lotion at night. expose your vitiligo patches to sun for 15 minutes every morning.
the above regimen will get you faster response as compared to tacrolimus and melgain alone.
once your vitiligo is stable for 6 months you can go for surgical treatment like suction blister grafting which has got a very good response.
hope this answer helps. for any further queries please get back to us. thanks.
I would like to inform you that ..vitiligo is an autoimmune depigmentary skin disease of unknown cause. With experience it has been found that vitiligo on lips is resistant to treatment. So, one has to keep patience. And it requires long term regular treatment.
Vitiligo may be triggered or exacerbated by friction and difference of temperature on lips. So, kindly avoid the use of toung cleaner. And do not have contact with either cold or hot cup/ glass.
You may continue to apply melgain thrice a day. And take trioxalen 25 mg daily in the morn. Take levamisole 50 mg tab. at night. Have treatment for long time.
I hope this would help you.
Thanks.
