I am a 54 year old lady that weighs 145 and I'm normally 130 to 135. I have been trying to lose 10 lbs but I have gained another 5lbs. Is Qsymia a good choice for me or what do you recommend. I work out4 to 5 days a week for the last 20 yrs. In the last 3 to 4 yrs I have craved for carbs, bread and sweets.

Hello and welcome to HealthcareMagic,
I empathize with the sugar cravings. At this point, it is possible you will have to treat it as a sugar addiction and avoid all added sugars. Current US recommendations limit an intake for women to 6 teaspoons per day or 24 GM's of sugar.

Back to Qysmia, I cannot tell you if it would be the best choice for you without a comprehensive assessment. Also, you are not that much overweight and you may not qualify for a prescription weight loss drug. I can say that it Qysmia may help control appetite without necessarily affecting the sugar cravings. The combination of Topamax and Phentermine is very effective for weight loss in my experience with clients who
struggle with their weight. These are the two drugs that, when combined, are called Qysmeia.

Because Phentermine is a stimulant and appetite
suppressant, typical side effects may include cardiac effects such as rapid heart beat or blood pressure increases. It may also cause insomnia ( limit caffeine) constipation, dry mouth, tingling of hands and feet. Not to be taken while pregnant or breastfeeding. Caution if previous history of heart kidney or mood problems.

Qsymia should be used with a calorie restricted diet and an exercise program. Consultation with an RDN may help you develop a workable lifestyle change program and intervention s for the sugar cravings with supplements/counseling.

If you were my client and wanted a supplement to jumpstart a weight loss program, I would probably recommend a combination of fucoxanthin and EGCG, both found in an over the counter professional supplement line called XanthiTrim. Best effects are seen after 15 weeks of continuous use, but with combination therapy of diet and exercise, you should see the pounds come off and your body shape change. I have done extensive research on both these nutraceuticals and their safety profile is certainly better than prescription medications and effects are longer lasting. You may check my profile for my online clinic address to find links to more information about this product.

Good luck to you,
