Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doc., my son is 16 months old; has got history of wheezing. This episode started 5 days back. Started him on levolin since 2 days. Now he is prescribed with levolin .3 mg + budecort .5mg (nebulizing) along side with Advent 228.5 mg. We didnt want to start on the antibiotic as we feared all together (steroids with antibiotics) might weaken him too much. Now he is on levolin + budecort combi. His wheezing still continues. Should we put him on the antibiotic course? Please advise. Thanks, Karthik
The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to acute exacerbation of asthma, secondary to respiratory tract infection.
Management involves: 1. A course of antibiotic to control the causative organism. 2. Levolin & Budecort nebulizer- provide symptomatic relief by causing broncho-dilation (dilating the smaller airway passages, relieving the obstruction & increasing airflow to lungs) Can be used whenever he is having an acute attack. 3. Antihistamine & anti tussive preparations for symptomatic relief. 4. Maintain adequate hydration & a healthy balance diet. 5. Also make sure that he is well protected from cold, dust & other allergens.
So, kindly consult a Pediatrician/ Pulmonologist for proper clinical evaluation and start treatment as advised.
Wishing him a good health. Take care.
