Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I just had a total left hip replacement with a reconstruction of my pelvis due to hip displaysia with zero weight on it for 3 months. They have prescribed naproxen and I can not take it. What else can I take in place of it. Thank you. I hope I didn t give to much information
Post hip replacement surgery requires good pain relief medication. Naproxen is an NSAID. The alternatives to Naproxen are other NSAIDs like Ibuprofen and Aceclofenac can be used only if you don't have coronary artery disease, peptic ulcer, myocardial infarction, bleeding disorders, kidney failure, and liver failure.
Opioids are a very good substitute pain medication such as Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Morphine, or Tramadol. Physical therapy is important to strengthen the hip muscles and reduce pain.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
