Suggest Medications To Control Elevated Cholesterol Levels

Hi. I have a somewhat elevated cholesterol but can’t take statins. They really make my body hurt all over and my urine is dark and has a funny smell. Is there something else I can take? I’ve tried 2 different prescriptions and one was worse than the other

Hello,

It is very likely to experience these adverse effects from many drugs, which may lower cholesterol levels. I would recommend Zetia for this purpose. If the same adverse effects occur, there is not too much to be done. A possible treatment option would be starting very low doses of statins and increasing slowly the dose, in order to avoid possible adverse effects. I would like to know your blood lipid profile for a more professional opinion. Some lifestyle modifications would help reduce naturally your cholesterol levels:
- A balanced diet (low fat intake, rich in fibers and omega 3 fatty acids)
- A lot of physical activity (aerobics).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka
