Suggest Medicine Comparable To Metoprolol Which Does Not Cause Weight Gain?
Hi my name is Wanda and I was wondering if there is a medicine that I can take that is comparable to Metoprolol that "does not" have weight gain side effects! I started on this drug April '2013 and I've gained approx. 15 lbs. since taking it! I'm so upset I just want to stop taking this med, but I guess I possibly won't be around to see my grandchildren grow up if I do that? Please tell there is help for me!!! Thank you, Wanda
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.. This metoprolol is a drug of beta blockers group. All drugs of beta blockers develops weight gain due to edema ( pulmonary , angiedema , peripheral ) . So if we prescribe any drug of this group this will cause weight gain. Since for evaluation of any diagnosis we require . 1 type of hypertension ( primary or essential or secondary). 2 Cause of hypertension , chf, renal , stenosis, 3 Lipid profile, diabetic history. 4 Reading of blood pressure. For other group of anti hypertensive drug please upload these reports. Good luck. Dr. HET
