Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Dr. I am facing hair loss since 2011. Now there are visible patches in my front scalp. I met two doctors in my area in this duration. First Dr. prescribed me Minoxidil + Hairfin (Finasteride) which somehow solved my problem but when I left it the hair loss again stated. Now recently I visited another doctor who suggested me two medicines Pillus Hair Spray + HairAid pills who I think didnot worked. Please for God sake Dr. I am 24 and I look like a man in his thirties with this patchy head. :( I am really worried for myself.
Since the combination of Minoxidil and Finasteride has worked earlier, you can restart it again.
It would take about 4 to 6 months to get the desired effects. However, after stoppage of hair fall and regrowth of new hair, you need to continue the medications for at least 3 to 5 years.
The only disadvantage with these medications is that the hair fall will continue once you stop the medications. This happens to many due to hormonal changes taking place in the body.
If you are worried about hair fall for cosmetic reasons, you can undergo a hair transplant.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
