Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi doc. I have a root canal surgery due next week (right molar) followed by a wisdom tooth extraction (right). I have been experiencing a lockjaw and the doc said he cannot perform the surgery before the lockjaw gets cured. He has given me a couple of antibiotics to cure this but they aren t working. What should I do?
As per your complain it seems that lock jaw in your case can be due to inflammation of the gum flap around wisdom tooth leading to swelling inside mouth causing lock jaw or difficulty in opening the mouth..
It has to be treated with antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkillers+serratiopeptidases along with warm saline gargles and cool compresses over the cheek.. In case if mouth opening still does not get better consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated.. He can use a mouth gag that helps in gradually improving the mouth opening .. You can also be advised Physiotherapy or mouth opening exercises along with medication to improve the condition..
Hope this information helps..
Regards..
