Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 3 month old son developed clear runny nose and now has been over a week. The congestion progressed to the level that he now has coughing due to it. The nasal mucous is still clear and not yellowish. His appetite and stools are still proper, no changes. Gave Levolin syrup for 2 days and now giving Coriminic syrup (antihistamine and decongestant). Could you suggest an antiobiotic for his cough or any other meds for his cough to subside
The symptoms that your baby are highly suggestive of viral or could be combined bacterial and viral infection. I hope the medicines you are giving to him are as per the doctor's advice as the dosage is very important depending on his weight.
Also, he might need treatment with antibiotics in addition to antitussive syrup. But he should be examined by a pediatrician first before prescribing these medicines.
As children are prone to getting infected so easily than adults, they should be treated properly with adequate dose of medicine. Also keep him well hydrated through frequent breast-feeding.
It will take at least 4-5 days to get relief from the symptoms after initiation of proper treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
