Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a sore throat for 3 weeks. It started with severe cough. Cough is gone. Throat pain is deep in my throat, not at the back of the mouth. I went to a doctor and he did not see sign of strep. Gave me codeine and nasal steroids. It is not helping. i do not have drainage. It is not from gerd.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sore throat and severe cough which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection and it could be due to granular pharyngitis/ bronchitis , it could also occur due to allergy in respiratory track.
I would suggest visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get chest X-ray and pulmonary function tests done to check extent of infection along with allergy test and start treatment accordingly. Do warm saline gargles. You should avoid cold liquids and spicy food.
You take nasal decongestant sprays, Antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Co amoxiclav along with cetrizine is recommended. You can take Diphenhydramine for 3-4 days. You should take steam inhalation. Avoid exposure to allergens as well.
You should take some mucolytic drugs to dissolve mucus and your symptoms will be relieved. Drink glass of warm water with spoon of honey Twice a day.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
