Suggest Medicine For Sore Throat With White Patches On The Tonsils
Sore throat for 6 weeks with white film in tonsillar area. Treated with Amoxicillin, no real response. Course of Zithromax for flu with severe bronchitis, no real real response. Culture negative for Strep and bacteria. Currently on 5th day of clotrimazole 10 mg lozenges QID. Not much response, maybe less sore ad a little less white film. What do you think?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Varinder's Response
Hello,
If the culture is negative, then add tablet metronidazole also. If no effect in the next three days, please repeat culture for bacteria as well as fungi. Keep your sugar level below 140 mg %. If antibiotics are not giving results, then it may be a viral infection, but it should resolve within two weeks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Varinder Joshi
