Suggest Medicine To Lower Cortisol Level

Test result have revealed that my cortisol level is above normal possibly caused by a problem with my Pituitary Gland, but the MRI did not detect a tumor. I have been on seven anti-depressants with negative results. Of course, I inform the doctors that I am not depressed. but simply suffering the symptoms related to high cortisol. I would like to know if there is medication out there to lower cortisol that a doctor would be willing to prescribe.

Hello,

Since MRI did not show any tumor. You do not need radiation or surgery. Your reports show high cortisol production, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP to detect if you are suffering from Cushing syndrome. Get blood & urine, saliva test, petrosal nasal sampling and CT done. If you are detected with Cushing syndrome you will require medicines or cortisol replacement therapy. Lifestyle changes will help, increase physical activity, take green tea, probiotics, dark chocolate, fruits (pears etc). Avoid addictions if any, avoid junk food.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
