Suggest Medicine To Suppress HSV2 Virus

Hi I would like to know which medication is preferable for the suppression of the HSV2 virus? I had my first infection whilst my immune system was low, I was in intensive care for chronic phylonephritis and the HSV2 virus raised its ugly head. I am very confused by what my Doctor has prescribed for suppression. I currently have a box of aciclovir 200mg tablets to take one of three times a day, and I also have a box of valaciclovir 500mg which I have been advised to take one tablet twice a day! Surely i dont need to take this much?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The most common treatment for HSV2 virus is Acyclovir.
The tablets, capsules, and suspension are usually taken with or without food two to five times a day for 5 to 10 days, starting as soon as possible after your symptoms begin.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
