Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. What if you discover on your own that you have a niacin/tryptophan deficiency, and have been keeping it at bay with niacin supplements. Doctors dont believe you, and you are losing vast weight, do you just let it manifest so someone will help u?
Hello, Welcome to HCM and thanks for asking your question. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid and has to be supplied through diet. Niacin or tryptophan deficiency can lead to pellagra which causes diarrhea, dermatitis and dementia mainly. This can lead to loss of weight. The only treatment is to take niacin supplements and foods rich in tryptophan like red meat, fish, poultry, breads, cereals, peanuts, etc. Hope this helps and let me know directly if you have any further relevant queries, i will be happy to guide you in proper path.
First make sure you are deficient. Consult a doctor and find out the real cause. There are hundreds other possibilities for weight loss. Please donot over indulge in self medication.
