Hi,
Welcome to HCM!
Yes, I understand your problem. Many people are unable to tolerate iron tablets.
They have a bad taste and often cause
nausea and
vomiting.
There are several ways of increasing one's iron levels.
If you are finding hard to consume tablets, you may try taking a syrup contain iron preparation.
If that is difficult too, then iron injections may be tried. They do not cause the problems of nausea or vomiting, however they are quite painful.
Finally, if none of these is possible, you may go for
blood transfusion. It is a sureshot way of increasing your
hemoglobin.
Each blood transfusion will increase your Hemoglobin by about 0.9 to 1 gm%.
Also, ensure that you eat green leafy vegetables, jaggery, milk and meat.
Avoid drinking tea as it hinders iron absorption in the body.
Hope this information helps. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts.
With regards,
Dr. Sridhar
