Dietitian & Nutritionist 's  Response
Hello Dear,
A balanced 1200 calorie per day diet is(for example) is balanced and needs to contain 5 (1 oz) lean meat or equivalent; 5-6 servings of vegetables (low carbohydrate), 2 servings of fresh fruit, 2 servings of low-fat dairy, 2-3 fat servings and 4-5 whole grain servings. Serving sizes are based on the Exchange List that the American Diabetes Association puts out.

Exercise is very, very important both cardio and strengthening so that you don't lose muscle while losing weight.

I caution you against these very low calorie diets as they can be, despite good results, lead to unhealthy outcomes.

A session with a Dietitian to set up a meal plan and exercise regime would be my recommendation. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
