Suggest Milk Suitable For Baby Having Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency
hi my grandson has a g6pd deficiency. we want to change his milk from promil. what milk is suitable for him?he is 3 1/2 years olad already. right now, he ate only a little food. what vitamins can we give to him? thank you and i will appreciate your soonest reply.
Hi,I am glad that your grandson is already 3 years and 6 months .Milk as such is no problem .You can give him fresh cows milk pasteurised because one has to avoid infections with bacteria like salmonella which causes diarrhoea. In this case you can also give Pediasure.Regarding foods to be avoided ,some homework has to be done because main management is to avoid fava beans ,sometimes touching may also precipitate some hemolysis. My advice to look at all food labels and compare with a list which you can download from internet and hang it on the fridge for ready reference ------alternatives are always available. Also check out how severely deficient your grandson is with a pediatric hematologist. Good news is as they get older and have at least 50% of total enzyme not many hemolytic episodes reported.
