Suggest Natural Treatments For IBS Caused By Severe Anxiety

Hello. I just turned 46. I have been having stomach issues for the past several years. My doctor and I have discussed the issues and he has diagnosed me with IBS, as a result of severe anxiety. I am currently taking anti-anxiety meds, as well as blood pressure med due to high blood pressure, which is also believed to be a result of the severe anxiety. From time-to-time, I have loose bowels. My bowel movements are never consistent. Occasionally, I will go and it s solid. I get relief from stomach pressure and bloating at that time. Today, I had cramps and diarrhea a couple hours after having eaten lunch. Though I did not examine the stool, when I wiped (I apologize for being graphic), it was greenish-brown with black specks. I occasionally have black specks on the tissue. The past few days, after I have consumed some water, they have been lose and I have experience relief to the bloating. Lately, after I eat, I feel incredibly bloated. I feel as if my stomach distends several inches a while after I eat - especially lunch. Is there anything I can take (something natural) to calm my stomach and return my bowels to normal. Except for work, I mostly confine myself to my home because I am never sure how I am going to feel. If I am going out, I will not eat before I do, as I am never sure if my stomach will act up. Any suggestions you can provide will be appreciated. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from IBS, followed by severe anxiety attacks. You have inconsistent bowel movements. You experience incredible bloating and discomfort. Black specks in the stool commonly occur when the body may not completely digest some foods, it may be indicative of developing liver problem. Certain food may also cause black specs in the stool like bananas. blueberries. cherries, fig, etc.

Greenish stool is commonly caused by food poisoning, lactose intolerance, IBS, Crohn's disease, giardia infection, etc. You are suggested to take food good for the liver to help digestion. You can also take supplements like Liv 52 and enzymes to help better digestion like cap. Aristozyme. Avoid fried food, oily spicy food, trans fat, red meat, refined flour, full fat dairy products, etc.

Take boiled food that is well cooked, you can take cereals, veggies, fruits, berries, lean meat, fishes, etc. Take boiled water after cooling it. Stay in strict diet control, avoid taking alcohol, do not smoke, do not do drugs, stay away from addictions if any. Take fiber rich food, avoid constipation, take adequate amount of water and fluids for better bowel movement. You can also take laxatives if needed.

Keeping or chewing a little ajwain (carom seeds) will help to get rid of gastritis or acid reflux. You can also take antacids or pantoprazole also. Get liver function tests done, to detect any liver dysfunction. Get clinically examined by a GP. You will be accordingly treated.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
