Suggest Normal Hemoglobin Levels In Infants

My 12 month old had Hgb levels checked today and it was at 8.5. She was concerned and we have to have a CBC done tomorrow. She thinks it is probably iron defeciency. What are the normal levels for a child this age and what are other reasons for anemia?

Hello dear, welcome to Healthcare Magic forum
Normal level at this age is 11-12g/dl.
Usual causes include poor intake, poor absorption from intestinal mucosal disturbances, chronic infections like tuberculosis etc.
Less common causes are hemolytic anemias, hematological conditions etc.
An initial complete blood count will give some idea regarding the underlying cause and will direct further evaluation.
Your pediatrician will guide you.
Hope this answer will be useful. Thank you
