Suggest Nutritional Requirements Needed For Breast Feeding Mother
I am a nursing student looking for nutritional requirements for my patient. She is a G2T1L1 french-african immigrant, approx. 63" tall and 120#. Her child is male 52cm long and 3113gms at birth. She is planning to breast feed with this child as she did with her first. I am need to suggest nutritional tips to her. any help is appreciated.
She must eat a healthy nutritious diet throughout her lactation period. Include milk and milk products like curd and cheese in daily diet as a source of calcium. Make sure to have a well-balanced diet with sufficient energy from carbohydrates and fats. Include whole grain cereals like whole wheat products, bread, pasta and rice for carbohydrates, fats from nuts and healthy sources like canola oil, rice bran oil used for cooking are better. Include plenty of green leafy vegetables, fruits in the diet for vitamins and minerals. Additional proteins are required to meet the demands for milk formation. Good quality proteins from dairy, meat, fish, poultry must be included in the diet. Avoid gas forming foods which can cause colic in babies who are breast fed. Such foods include raw onions, radish, cabbage, dried peas, beans and cauliflower which must be avoided during lactation.
